“Putting the person at the centre means educating them to see with the far-sightedness of Abraham (Gen 15:5): helping them discover the meaning of life, their inalienable dignity, and their responsibility towards others. Education is not only the transmission of content, but also the learning of virtues.” (Pope Leo XIV, 2025)
Welcome to the Faculty of Religious Education
Our curriculum is rooted in This Is Our Faith, the national syllabus for Roman Catholic schools in Scotland. Through this programme, pupils grow in their understanding of Catholicism while developing respect for the beliefs, cultures, and traditions of others.
Across six years of study, pupils explore the richness of the Catholic faith and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, considering how these values guide us in today’s world. They also have opportunities to put their faith into action by participating in events such as the Youth Philanthropy Initiative in S3, and they can work towards nationally recognised awards, including the Religion, Beliefs and Values Award in S4 and the Caritas Award in S6. Pupils also have the opportunity to study Religions, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) in the Senior Phase of their education.
Our aim is to support young people in recognising their God‑given gifts and talents, participating meaningfully in liturgy, developing strong critical thinking skills, and growing in empathy and compassion. Through their RE journey, pupils are encouraged to reflect deeply, act justly, and contribute positively to the school community and beyond.
