St. Augustine’s RC High School is a Roman Catholic secondary school in west Edinburgh with roots that reach back to earlier Catholic education in the city. The school was founded in August 1969, created through the merger of Holy Cross Academy (est. 1907) and St Andrew’s Junior Secondary (opened 1962). It then moved to the west of the city in October 1969, and later opened its current campus in January 2010.
A strong sense of community runs through the school’s life and traditions. The school describes a positive, welcoming ethos, shaped by a spiritual core and respect for all, with a particular emphasis on the quality of relationships across the school community. This is especially visible in shared celebrations like the annual Feast Day Mass, and in the school’s values framework—PRAISE (Potential, Respect, Achievement, Inclusion, Support and Equality)—highlighted during the 50th anniversary celebrations marking the school’s opening in 1969.
The same community spirit is reflected in charitable and service-focused work (including support for SCIAF and participation in the Pope Benedict XVI Caritas Award), aligned with the school motto: “With respect for one another, let’s make a difference.”
